Ahmedabad in a Day

Home Visit and Cooking

Duration: 3-4 hours

What this tour is about:

This tour is an insider’s view into Ahmedabad’s local culture and cuisine.

Despite an extensive coastline, Gujarati cuisine is largely vegetarian, due to strong Jain influences. Many Gujurati dishes are sweet, salty and spicy at the same time. A typical meal consists of flat bread (rotli), dal or kadhi, rice or khichdi, vegetable curry (shaak), papad, salad and pickles.

During this tour, we will visit a local home for an interactive cooking session. You will get an introduction to the essential ingredients of Gujarati cuisine, and learn about the various spices and condiments used in an Indian meal.

Please note, this is not a cooking class with a professional chef. Rather, it is a chance to visit a home for insights into daily life in this part of India, and an introduction to a very tasty regional cuisine by the lady of the house. You are welcome to participate, or just sit back and watch. You can also take notes, ask questions, and photograph the cooking session if you wish.
